Honouring the Memory of Kathy MacKenzie

The Esquimalt Curling Club is deeply saddened to share the passing of our friend, mentor, and valued member of the curling community, Kathy MacKenzie. Kathy passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, after a long battle with a lung infection.

Kathy’s impact on curling in our region was profound. Many of us had the privilege of working alongside her at Zone, Regional, and Provincial Championships through CurlBC. Her dedication, guidance, and generous spirit helped shape not only our competitions, but also the people who were fortunate enough to know and learn from her.

She will be deeply missed, and her influence will continue to be felt throughout the curling community for years to come.

A celebration of life is being planned by the Victoria Curling Club.   Please contact VCC for details.

We invite all who knew Kathy to take a moment to reflect on the time spent with her and the lasting impact she made on our sport and our lives.

ECC Board Meeting Highlights - February 2026

The Esquimalt Curling Club Board of Directors met on February 19, 2026, to review club operations, finances, and upcoming events. Key topics included progress toward rock replacement funding, and plans for sponsor appreciation and club-wide season finale events. The club remains in a strong financial position, with increased sponsorship and membership growth since COVID. The Board also approved support for the wheelchair team attending Nationals and named joint recipients of the 2026 Curler of the Year Award.

The Board discussed the importance of long-term recreation planning in Esquimalt and encourages members to share their input through the Township’s recreation facilities survey.
