Curler of the Year 2004-2005 |
Doug Muir Doug was born and raised on a fruit farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake and following in his Dad (Earle) and brother''s (Glenn) footsteps, he learned to curl on a 4 sheeter in St. Catharines. Under the guidance of Bob Hemphill, he also learned ice maintenance. This allowed him to practically live at the curling rink for many seasons while going to Brock University. In Ontario, Doug was able to participate in several Provincial Farmers bonspiels as well as coming runner-up in the OCA Colts provincial competition. Upon moving to Victoria in 1992 to take his Masters degree at the University of Victoria, Doug became an active member of the Esquimalt Curling Club having joined the various curling teams of Chuck Kennedy and Ken O''Connor. Doug has participated in many Esquimalt Curling Club functions enjoying the people and the camaraderie of curling. Doug has taken an active role in the Men''s League and Saturday morning Sportsmen''s League, currently Doug is Draw Master for the Monday & Wednesday Men''s League. Doug also gave valuable assistance and ideas for setting up our Advertising Program to help make it a success for the Esquimalt Curling Club. Doug designed and maintains the excellent Esquimalt Curling Club Web Site www.esquimaltcurlingclub.ca continually updating and improving the Web Site to make it the best in the Curling world. The Club has received numerous complementary comments about the content and function of the Web Site from across Canada and from European Curlers. Doug is a great guy who supports the Club wherever & whenever it is required always-giving assistance to curlers and the Club ... Thanks Doug and great curling. |
